Pictured in this linocut are the 'Charles Dibdin', the Walmer lifeboat, and a Deal hoveller, the 'Lady Haig'.
The 'Lady Haig' was an open boat, only 27 feet long. She was built in the 1930s for the landlord of the 'Port Arms' in Deal. In May 1940 she was towed across the Channel to Dunkirk where she successfully rescued soldiers of the Grenadier Guards from its beaches.
The 'Charles Dibdin' was holed in two sides, but managed to return to the safety of Walmer Beach.
